KESSLER, Alicia Agnes
KESSLER, Alicia Agnes Oct. 18, 1932 - Jan.13, 2017, Born in Los Angeles, Calif. on Oct. 18, 1932, to William and Helen Sullivan. Passed away Jan. 13, 2017, at her home in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family after a valiant 15 month battle with cancer. Saralicia attended Nativity School and graduated in 1950, from All Girl's Catholic High School (now Bishop Conaty High School) in Los Angeles. Later she obtained an AA degree from Antelope Valley College. In April 1954, she met John Daniel Kessler at the Lawrence Welk show at the Aragon Ballroom in Venice Beach. They were married June 11, 1955, in Los Angeles. Saralicia then dropped the first three letters in her name and went by Alicia. Originally living in Torrance, they moved to Lancaster in 1961. Alicia was a homemaker most of her life but after her children were grown became a CNA and provided in- home care to elderly patients. Alicia also volunteered for many years at Sundown Elementary School which her grandchildren attended. She also volunteered her time at numerous organizations in the Antelope Valley. Alicia enjoyed gardening especially growing vegetables and flowers. Alicia loved to travel on the train, especially trips to Idaho to visit her daughter and granddaughters and in 2007 took a cross country train trip to visit the upstate New York town where her father was born. She was active in the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society, first at Sacred Heart Church and later at Saint Junipero Serra Parish in Lancaster. Preceded in death by her parents, older sister Barbara, and brother Robert who was killed in action in World War II in the Pacific. Alicia is survived by her husband of 61 years John; children: Lawrence (Christy), Daniel (Blanca), Michael, (Melody), Thomas (Hala), Maria (Richard), and Kathleen; grandchildren: Tiffany, Brandon, Jaclyn, Christine, Trevor, Connor, Sebastien, Jamie, Kaitlyn, and Daniel; nieces: Sherilyn and Patricia; nephew Richard; other numerous nieces and nephews; and longtime friend Mrs. Betty Dluzak. The family wishes to thank Drs. Ma and Barcelona, the staff at Antelope Valley Hospital and Pro Care Hospice, for caring for Mom. Also a special thanks to Mr. Ernie Buckley who brought Holy Communion to Alicia weekly as she was unable to attend mass. The family would like to thank Maria and Kathy who were Alicia's main caregivers during her illness. Visitation will be 4:00pm to 8:00pm Wed., Jan. 25, 2017, at Halley-Olsen-Murphy, 44831 Cedar Avenue. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 at 11:30 am at Saint Junipero Serra Parish, 42121 60th Street West. Committal to follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Saint Serra Parish Building Fund or Mission Bell Pre-School at Saint Junipero Serra Parish in Lancaster.
