Gastineau, Charles
GASTINEAU, Charles Lee Passed peacefully to be with his Savior and Lord on Dec. 17, 2016. The oldest of 5 children, Chuck was born on Aug. 14, 1936 in Okla. and grew up in Colo. Chuck moved to Calif. in 1954 to attend Pasadena College. He and his new bride moved to Lancaster in 1959 to begin his teaching career. Mr. Gastineau was a gifted and respected educator, eventually serving as Superintendent of Schools in both the Lancaster and Eastside School Districts. He also served in the Army, playing on their baseball team and standing out as an expert marksman. As a charter member of Valley View Church of the Nazarene, Chuck helped construct the sanctuary, and served in many leadership roles. He had many hobbies - camping, fishing, baseball, golfing, photography and woodworking - and could fix just about anything. Chuck's passing will leave a huge hole in the life of his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Delora, as well as his two daughters Lori Benefiel (Bryan) and Sheri Langstraat (John). His four grandchildren: Amy (James), Marcus, Jenni, and DJ already miss their Papa terribly. He is preceded in death by parents Byron and Winnie Gastineau, parents-in-law Rex and Dell Roby, and is survived by siblings: Dennis (Suzie), Roger (Rowena), Bonnie (John) and Jerry; plus numerous extended family members, all of whom he treasured. Chuck will be remembered for his way of making everyone feel incredibly valued, his unwavering integrity and faith, his devotion to his family, and his mischievous smile and quick wit. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2017 at 11 am at Valley View Church of the Nazarene in Lancaster, Calif. with optional viewing at 10 am.
