HOLMES, Dorathy Marie Roat
HOLMES, Dorathy Marie Roat Oct. 7, 1928 - Dec. 9, 2016 Born in Davison, Mich., passed away in Long Beach, Calif. During her 65 years in the AV, Dorathy was a rancher on the Eastside, raising alfalfa, livestock and turkeys. She also volunteered throughout her children's school years at Eastside, Linda Verde and AVHS and was president of the PTA during their elementary and high school years. Dorathy also volunteered with the AV medical Center Hospice Program and worked extensively with the AV chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, working directly with MS patients and families. Sewing and gardening were among her interests. Dorathy loved to talk, but she loved to listen too. She never met a person she did not care about and most who met her came to love her. Predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Walter T. Holmes, Dorathy is survived by step-daughter, Jean Ann Holmes Birt; daughters: Judi L. Holmes, Julie M. Holmes-Grady, Jill S. Holmes Reagan and Jacqueline L. Holmes Smethurst; grandchildren: Cortney Smethurst Kimoto, Krystal N. Smethurst Espinoza, Casey A. Reagan and Dillon M. Reagan; great-grandson, Oliver Espinoza. Private viewing and services were held at The Omega Society in Orange, Calif. If so inclined, the family requests donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Cancer Society.
