SLATON, Doris
SLATON, Doris 91, passed away Sun., Nov. 27, 2016 in Surprise, Ariz., still shining her trademark smile that everyone knew and loved. Born in Chester, Pa.; she was the daughter of Frank & Helen Grieco. 'Dossi' had many achievements that she was proud of and one of them was learning to fly planes, then flying solo at age 16. Soon after graduating from high school, she met Loy as he was returning on the Queen Mary from England, during World War II. They married in 1946. With her beloved husband by her side, they moved their family to Lancaster in 1955 and lived there until 2013 when they moved to Ariz., to be closer to their son & daughter-in-law. She retired from Lockheed and spent her retirement years surrounded by family & countless friends while doting on her grandchildren and attending their sporting events. She also enjoyed spending time at the river; waterskiing, cooking meals for everyone and drinking her favorite camping beverage, Budweiser. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Loy, her son Frank and her brother, Frank Jr. She is survived by her son Jim and wife Kelly, daughter-in-law, Debbie, three grandsons: Jonathan (Megan), Justin and Daniel (Danielle); two granddaughters: Jennifer (Jim) and Amber; along with 11 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind cherished friends, co-workers & former neighbors. The family wishes to thank her caregivers in Ariz.: Angela & Eunice along with her doctor in Lancaster, Dr. Parazo. Between her husband and two strong willed sons, Dossi was the strong one, the glue that held the family together. We know she is at peace and is reunited with her beloved Loy and son Frank. A Celebration of Life will take place at Joshua Memorial, Dec. 17, 2016, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations made to: Hoffman Hospice, in Doss' name.
