CROCOLL, David James
CROCOLL, David James Feb. 19, 1926 - Oct. 31, 2016 David Crocoll passed away on Oct. 31, 2016, with his loving wife, Henrietta, by his side. He is survived by Henrietta and their four children Kathryn Somerville (Dan), Susan McConnell (Tim), Judy Hudspeth (Jeff), and James Crocoll (Debbie), as well as six granddaughters, one grandson, and two great-grandchildren. Dave was born February 19, 1926 in Erie, Pennsylvania; son of Carl and Laura Crocoll, he had two siblings, Carl and Nancy. Dave grew up in Erie before leaving to serve as a radio operator in the Navy in Florida during the Second World War. After the war, with help from the GI Bill, Dave received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Heald College in San Francisco. He also studied at Stanford University. Dave met his wife Henrietta while both were working at Republic Aviation at Edwards Air Force Base. They were married May 10, 1957 in Lancaster and honeymooned at the Grand Canyon. He continued working as a flight test engineer at Edwards, with close involvement in the world-changing development and testing made famous in the book and movie The Right Stuff. Dave loved golf, square dancing, fixing things and dessert - he was known in their square dance group as The Cookie Monster. More than anything, he loved to be surrounded by his family. He told stories with a memory for the finest detail, and loved to share his history with anyone who would sit with him. You will be missed Dad. Services will be held Sat., Nov. 5, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at: Mojave Foursquare Church 16518 Holt Street Mojave, CA 93501
