LEONARD, Charles
LEONARD, Charles David "Dave" Passed away on October 10, 2016. He was 74. Born on April 24, 1942 to Charles and Claudia Leonard. Dave graduated from AVHS in 1960, marrying his high school sweetheart, Arlene Mersereau in 1962, two weeks after her graduation. They were married for 54 years. Dave had a number of loves, but nothing ever replaced #1: His family; great memories - vacations in station wagons with hot rims and big motors, always there for their baseball games, the kids spending the night at a construction site in his camper to have one-on-one time that they will never forget. Dave was the best Dad in the world. When they became adults, they were his best friends. And when his kids had their own kids, he was the best Grandpa in the world. After his family came his great loyalty to his lifelong friendships. Cars were a huge part of his life, starting with getting his "farmer's" driver's license at the age of 14. He owned so many cars that he lost count after 300. He loved custom cars, his favorite being a '61 Chevy Bubble Top. He had just refurbished a '58 Chevy Belair two door hard top, which he and Arlene believe was the very same car that they got married in. His favorite gambling game was "Let it Ride" and he so enjoyed Reno, where he and Arlene made it to 29 out of the 30 "Hot August Nights" car shows. Dave worked many jobs - making mattresses at Siesta Furniture, structural mechanic at Rockwell, the Gas Co., selling cars and working for RJ Reynolds Tobacco. From 1978 through 2016, Dave had his General Contractor's license and owned Leonard & Son's Construction, starting with building his own home. His motto was, "One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure it's worth watching." Dave was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen, and is survived by his wife, Arlene, his children Keith, Crystal and Craig, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Per Dave's request to celebrate his life, in lieu of flowers, send lottery tickets!!! Oh yeahÉ.and, ALWAYS BET ON THE GREY HORSE! There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:00pm at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary, 808 East Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster, Calif., 93535. All are invited.
