` TURKAL, Lois Passed away peacefully September 1, 2016 at Regency of Evergreen Valley Senior Living in San Jose, California. Born June 26,1926 in Mason City, Iowa, she was the fourth child of six to be born to August and Alma Buhr. At 16 years old Lois worked for the Mason City Tent and Awning Factory installing tent grommets for use during WWII. This factory is still in business. When the war ended, she began working as a switchboard operated and soon became a supervisor. Lois married Frank Turkal September 19, 1947. They moved to California in 1954 with their twin sons Ron and Don, and son Steven. Daughter Joanne was born in California. Lois and Frank enjoyed playing cards and square dancing with friends. Lois was a cribbage player who was hard to beat. They were members of Sacred Heart Parish in Lancaster since 1954 where Lois was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. They both worked at the Antelope Valley Fair for the Elks Lodge of which Lois was also a member of the Emblem Club. They were also strong supporters of Paraclete High School, and loved traveling in their fifth wheel. When the twins entered high school, Lois began working as a switchboard operator at Lockheed Martin Aircraft in Palmdale, California, where she retired in 1981. Lois is preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, and will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son Ron and his wife Cheryl; their daughter Anne, her husband Jean-Paul Arlie and their three sons, Jackson, Cooper, and Harrison; daughter Colleen, her husband Stuart Cowie and their daughters Islay and Eleanor. Her son Don and his wife Yvonne; their daughter Caryn, her husband Matt Fagundes and their daughter Jill and son Ryan; son Jeff, his wife Tara and their son Jordan and daughter Tiana. Her son Steven and his wife Theresa. Her daughter Joanne and her husband Terry Haas; son Brad Fenichel and his girlfriend Christine Glowacki and their son Dylan; daughter Jada, her husband Andy Marvin and their son Colton and daughter McKenna; son Bryan. Viewing and Vigil will be held at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary in Lancaster, California, Friday, September 16, 2016 from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lancaster, California. The internment will follow at Joshua Memorial Park. We would like to thank the entire staff at Regency of Evergreen Valley Senior Living in San Jose for being dedicated, professional, and caring, to our mother while she lived there. We also thank the staff as they were supportive and available to each of her children, family, and friends who visited her. They created an atmosphere our mother lovingly called her home. We would also like to thank the hospice provider, Vitas Healthcare, for the 24/7 expert, compassionate, and respectful attention they showed both our mother and her family during this difficult time.
