TICE, Lois Houston
TICE, Lois Houston January 25, 1924 - May 17, 2016 Lois was born in Los Angeles, California to Eric and Mildred Houston. She had one sibling Al. She graduated high school, attended the American Institute of Banking in Los Angeles and started her 'moneyed career'. Her first job started the day after high school graduation at the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles. She started as a currency sorter eventually promoting to secretary to the Vice President. Lois married Frank Tice in 1945, in St. Marks Methodist Church in Los Angeles, a 60 year marriage ending in Franks passing in 2005. They lived in Manhatten Beach, Calif., raising two son s and a daughter. They were constantly transferred to various states by Rockwell, the company her husband worked for, but always lucky enough to return to the beach she loved in California. Lois started working in 1959 for Bank of America as a teller. In 1961 her husband was transferred by Rockwell to Lancaster, California near Edwards Air Force Base and Lois was able to transfer with the Bank of America as well. Once there, she worked her way up to loan and escrow officer, making VA, FHA, Cal Vet and private real estate loans. She retired from Bank of America in 1989 and went to work part time for a small escrow company until 1991. During these years she also attended Antelope Valley College, taking courses that interested her. Finally retiring she started traveling. Over the years she lived or visited 45 states including her favorite, Hawaii 3 times and Alaska. Lois traveled to Canada, Mexico, and Europe. In 1987 she began volunteering at the Lancaster United Methodist Church office. Using her professional expertise (and she joked 'not having sticky fingers') was an active member of the counting team. She served as treasurer for 8 years for United Methodist Women and was a member of Miriam Circle. She was also President of her Bank of America retiree group for 5 years. In addition to travel, her hobbies included crossword puzzles, Scrabble, hand writing analysis, sewing, converting cross stitch patterns into beadwork. An avid reader she enjoyed biographies, history, murder mysteries and poetry. She loved to cook and was well known for her homemade pies, the last one made at the age of 92. She enjoyed watching baseball, football and horseracing. She is survived by sons Richard (Linda) of Susanville, Ronald of Lancaster, and daughter Janet (Steve) of Morro Bay and special 'other daughter' Joanne Goodman (Charles) of Amelia, Va. Brothers in law Joe Tice of Westminster Calif, Jack Tice of Oklahoma City Oklahoma, many nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. Her intelligence, Irish wit and sense of humor will be missed by many. The family would like to express deep appreciation and gratitude to the following: Dr Sethu Madhavan of Lancaster, Dan Ledbetter of Wells Fargo Investments, Lancaster, the staff at Casa de Flores Assisted Living in Morro Bay, Central Coast Hospice of San Luis Obispo, her physician and Director of Central Coast Hospice, Dr. Steve Sainsbury, Joni Moe, Rodger Miller and Linda Domenghini of A Tender Touch & Loving Heart Home Health Care. The many friends and family who called, sent cards, flowers, and prayers and made the trip to Morro Bay to visit. A memorial service will be held September 17, 2016, 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lancaster Methodist Church Bereavement Committee.
