PRATT, Barbara J.
PRATT , Barbara J. Barbara J. Pratt, long-time community activist and resident of Boron, passed away at her home on May 6, 2016. A Celebration of her life was held at the Boron Community Center on May 21. Born in Boulder, Colorado on August 10, 1920, Barbara came to Boron with her family at the age of twelve during the Great Depression. Barbara attended Antelope Valley High School, and later Ventura College. Education was very important to her, and she finally received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from CSU Northridge at the age of 55. At 21, Barbara was the youngest post master in California, and later worked as a substitute teacher. Most of her life was spent volunteering for nonprofit organizations throughout the Antelope Valley, including the AV Visiting Nurses and United Way. In Boron, she served on the boards of The Muroc Hospital District, The Chamber of Commerce, Wind in the Willows Preschool, and was Director of the 20 Mule Team Museum until the age of ninety four. In 2009, she wrote Around Boron, a pictorial history of the area published through the 'Images of America' series by Arcadia Publishing. Proceeds were donated to the museum. Barbara is survived by her daughter Shelley Keller-Gage, still living in Boron, grand-daughters, Jennifer Keller of Seattle, Julie Keller of Lancaster, Brianna Gage of Arcata, grand-son Sajen Gage of Boron, and countless friends and colleagues.
