FRIEND, Barbara
FRIEND, Barbara Raye (Hale) Barbara Raye (Hale) Friend peacefully passed away surrounded by loving family on June 7, 2016, with her husband of 58 years, Robert Friend, holding her hand. Raye was born in Rayville, La., on April 2, 1940. She graduated high school from New Iberia Senior High in New Iberia, La. Raye married her high school sweetheart, Robert Friend, on June 22, 1958. Bob and Raye moved to Mojave, Calif., in 1970, where she committed herself to serving the Lord and serving others. She was faithfully active in her local church serving with children, women, elderly, and anyone in need. She retired after many years with the Mojave Unified School District. Raye is survived by her loving husband, Robert, of Mojave; her children, Teri Nelson of Bakersfield, Calif., Toni Buck (Joey) of Ridgecrest, Calif., Robin Gainey (Keith) of Tehachapi, Calif., Jeff Friend (Becki) of Hesperia, Calif.; siblings, Ivy Prejean of Carencro, La., twin sister, Faye McDuff of Youngsville, La., Desmond Hale of Lafayette, La., Randy Hale of Lafayette, La., and Nancy McClain of Newport News, Va.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, O.B. and Sarah Hale; and her son-in-law, John Nelson. The family would like to thank Wayne and Linda Cross, Betty Bridgeman, and the nurses at Linda's Elderly Care for their devoted love and care for our loved one.
