THOMPSON, Donald Edward
THOMPSON, Donald Edward age 88, previously living in Lancaster at 45514 N. 17th St. West, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2016. Don was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on March 21, 1928 to his parents Donald Dwight and Katherine (Sanborn). After serving in the US Navy in World War II, Don married Ann Elizabeth Castle of Los Angeles, California in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 12, 1953. Don immersed his career in the aerospace field working for several of the largest aircraft and space industry companies in numerous cities around the US and Europe. Don retired from his profession at Edwards Air Force Base, California in 1992. Don's retirement years comprised of involvement in service organizations including the Lancaster Elks Lodge #1625 and volunteering for the LA County Sheriff's Department. Don's engaging personality and sense of humor were appreciated by all those who knew him. Don was preceded in death by his loving wife Ann and survived by his sister, Carol (Skip) Haugen of Renton, Washington, his sons Brian of Santa Cruz, California and Craig of Boise, Idaho and his 3 grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held at 11am on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Lancaster Elks Lodge, 240 E. Avenue K. Relatives and friends of Don are encouraged to attended and celebrate his life. It was Don's wishes to be buried at sea as it was with Ann. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be given in Don's name to the Wounded Warriors Project ( ). The project serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury in their military service.
