PHIPPS, Rose Mary Josephine (nee Holland) age 84, died on Monday, February 8, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. Rose was born in Letchworth, England, on December 24, 1931. During World War II, she contributed to the War effort by sewing parachutes for allied forces in a factory north of London. It was there she met an American soldier named Eugene Henry Phipps, the 'Yank' who would become her husband of 66 years. Rose caIled Downey, and eventually Palmdale her home. Rose was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Marie Phipps Burton Snyder and is survived by her husband, 'Gene,' as well as her daughter Gail Lynn Phipps Martin, and son-in-law Ray Martin. Rose's memory will live on through her grandchildren: Russell Martin, Renee (David) Martin-Medlin, Rheagan Martin, Heather (Bryce) Burton Bolander, Tania (Jason) Burton-Williams, Ashley Snyder, and Daren Snyder, as well as her great-grandchildren Ryley Evenson, Shelby and Jordi Williams, Haley Neis and Parker and Presley Medlin. For those who knew her love of sweets and her joy of sharing them she will be fondly remembered as 'Candy Nan' and for English friends who loved her, 'Rosie.' Rose's ashes will be returned to her beloved England. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 2pm at the home of Ray and Gail Martin, 43055 80th Street West, Lancaster, California, 93536.
