Obituary Notices and Memorials

KILLIAN, Walter Jan. 13, 1933 - Jan. 2, 2016 Walter was born to Welborne and Warnetta Killian in Detroit, Mich. 'Mouse', as he was affectionately known during childhood, made the most of his middle child status. He was always up for an adventure and kept his older brother, William, and his younger sister, Winifred, on their toes. Walter graduated from Miller High School in Detroit where he was a champion swimmer. He enlisted in the Air Force in May 1952 and began an illustrious military career in Air Flight Operations that spanned 28 years. In 1957, while stationed at Charleston Air Force Base, Walter met the love of his life, Nancy Ann Herbert, who was also a proud member of the Air Force. Walter and Nancy met on Valentines Day and six weeks later were married on April 27th. Throughout their 58 years of marriage, Walter and Nancys love and devotion to each other grew stronger every day. He and Nancy had five children; Wanda Leah, Wilfred Joseph, William Matthew, Warnetta Della and Wendelyn Patrice. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, brother and daughter, Warnetta. To say Walter was a loving husband and father is an understatement. He was effusive with his love, gave great hugs and ended every call with 'I Love You'. He was opinionated and stubborn - a Killian trait to be sure. He was also great jokester and one of the most generous people you will ever meet. A memorial service will be held at the Lancaster United Methodist Church (918 W. Ave. J., Lancaster, Calif. 93534) on Jan. 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception. Walter will be interred with full military honors at a private service on Jan. 18th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walters name to the Lancaster United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen.
