YOUNG, David James
YOUNG, Ret. MSgt. David James left this life to be with his beloved Mary on Dec. 2, 2015. David was born Oct. 6, 1928 to David L. and Elizabeth Young in Annapolis, Md. His childhood was spent in the Panama Canal Zone and he graduated Barberton High School, Barberton, Ohio. David served in the U.S. Air Force where he participated in the Berlin Airlift. It was at McClellan AFB, Calif., in 1951 that he met and married the love of his life. David's military career sent him to Bermuda, England, Edwards AFB and retiring at Vandenberg AFB after 24 years of service in 1969. He returned to his electrical engineering career with Boeing and Rockwell in the Antelope Valley. A devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather, David enjoyed hunting, fishing and the Girl Scouts. A passion for sharp shooting and old westerns lead him to Cowboy Action Shooting where he was known as Sheriff Dan Potter. Dave was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary; children Jeanne Marie and David William, and his parents. He is survived by his sister Janice (Bob) Frost, sister-in-law Loretta Wilkinson, daughters Therese Phelps (Dave), Mary Kay Goodwin (John), Annamarie Lee (Joel), and Cecilia Guillaume (Ken); five grandchildren: Christy, David, Kurtis, Jarret, Travis; and five great-grandchildren: Bryana, Kaj, Landon, Lincoln, and Cora. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, or to the Quartz Hill VFW Post 3000. Celebration of Life Memorial, Sunday, Dec 6, 2015 at 2pm,VFW Post 3000, 4342 W. Ave L, Quartz Hill, Calif. Viewing: Monday, Dec 7, 2015 at 5pm. Service 6pm, Halley Olsen Murphy, 44831 N Cedar, Lancaster Calif. Burial, Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015 at 2pm, Lompoc Cemetery District, Lompoc Calif.
