PURSLEY, Wm. 'Bill' Long time AV resident and avid golfer, Wm. 'Bill' Pursley, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Palm Springs, Calif., where he lived with his wife of 53 years, Shirley. Bill was born February 12, 1928 in Missouri - the youngest of 11 children. He relocated with his brothers, Ellis and Dale Pursley, to the Antelope Valley in 1945, and soon after joined the Navy. In 1962, he and Shirley were married. During his tenure in Lancaster, Bill enjoyed golf, being an active member of the Lions Club and his time served as City Councilman and eventually Mayor of Lancaster. Bill and Shirley owned Mid-Valley Real Estate and enjoyed their partnership until they retired in the late 90's. In 1998, Bill and Shirley moved to Palm Springs where they enjoyed year-round golfing and made many dear friends. Along with Shirley, Bill is survived by his daughter Robbi, son Neil (Janice), daughter Lori (Geoff,) six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Desert Vineyard 1011 East Ave. I in Lancaster, Calif. Dr. Dan G. Meyers will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SOS, a local non-profit organization that provides transportation and services to families and spouses for service-members stationed at the USMC Base in Twentynine Palms ( ), or to a charity of your choice.
