GONZALES, John Victor
GONZALES, John Victor Passed away on August 29, 2015. John Gonzales was born on June 30, 1937 at the Apache Hotel in Yuma, Arizona to Juan Gonzales and Amelia Romo. John was very proud of his Native American heritage with his father a Papago and his mother a White Mountain Apache. He served in the United States Marine Corps as an Aviation Mate for Squadron VMF (Air Wing -AW) 115 AM and VMF (AW) 314. John served in the Marines from April 1958 through March 1962. Honorably discharged from the Marines on the morning of March 23, 1962, he gave a fellow Marine a ride to the Antelope Valley that day and was given employment at North American Rockwell as a jet mechanic working on the XB-70, Apollo 12 and 13 programs. This is how he ended up in the Antelope Valley. Married Maria Hilda Leyva on December 7, 1963. Attended Antelope Valley College and University of California Riverside and graduated with a Degree in Social Services in 1973, while raising a family. John was selected by Father Elder at Sacred Heart Church to be a Eucharistic Minister, one of two persons (+Mike Vales) specifically to assist with Spanish Mass. John worked for the State of California as a Veterans Employment Representative for thirty years, dealing with counseling and employment assistance, a tough but gratifying job. He is survived by his wife Maria Hilda Gonzales; three sons, John, Cesar (Virginia) and Rolando (Marlen); seven grandchildren, Marrissa, Andre, Anthony, Samantha, Alex, Sofia, and Rolando Alonso Jr. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. Rosary will be held at 5:30 pm, Sept. 9, 2015 at Paraclete Chapel, Lancaster, with Mass at 9 am, Sept. 10, 2015 at Sacred Hearts, Lancaster, followed by Inurnment at Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin.
