COMPTON, Charles Charlie
COMPTON, Charles 'Charlie' 1925 - 2015 Charlie died August 21, 2015 of natural causes. He is survived by his daughter Cyndy May of Lake Hughes; grandson Joshua Cummings (Jennifer) and great-grandson Gavin all of Elk Grove, Calif. He also leaves behind five stepchildren, whom he raised and loved as his own, Theresa Kaucher, Lancaster, John Jacobs (Mary), Atascadero, Calif., Susan Eccles (Andy), Converse, Texas, Elizabeth Regan, Enumclau, Wash., and Claude Jacobs, Lancaster. Charlie was also blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Estelle Compton and his daughter, Claudia Brower. He was born in Laws, California February 1, 1925. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1935. Charlie moved to Lancaster in 1956 with his first wife, Marjorie. As a young man, he worked on his cousins ranch in Bishop. When World War II was in its second year, he quit the ranch (although considered a necessary element to the war effort) and joined the Marines. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Glendale Calif., where he was raised to Master Mason in 1954. He was appointed to Palmdale's Senior Citizens Advisory Commission and he was a proud member of the local Marine Corp League, Semper fi, oorah!! He was a person of strong conviction and was well known in the community for his frequent editorials in the local newspaper. Charlie was a salesman by occupation. He retired from S.E. Rykoff as a wholesale institutional grocer, after some 30 years. Inurnment has been held. A family celebration of Charlie's life will be held at a later time.
