SANDERS, Bessie Lee (Parker)
SANDERS, Bessie Lee (Parker) Born on June 9, 1921 in Memphis, Tennessee. Passed away on July 27, 2015 in Lancaster, Calif. Bessie grew up in Memphis and resided in the Antelope Valley 69 years. Bessie followed husband Guy while he served in the Air Force during World War II. She worked on aircraft frames at various plants during this time and was "Rosie the Riveter". Among the plants she worked were: Consolidated Vultee-Tucson, Lockheed-Burbank and Fisher Aircraft-Memphis. After the war, Bessie and Guy opened Sanders Jewelers on Lancaster Boulevard. Their business thrived from 1947 to 1972. Guy was the watchmaker and Bess did all the engraving and took care of the books and sales. She enjoyed Jelly making, reading, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and the Los Angeles Dodgers. She also enjoyed spending time with friends at the Moose Lodge and visiting her favorite cafe - Judy's on Sierra Highway. She was a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge, Lancaster Elks Lodge #1625 and American Legion Auxiliary #311. She is survived by loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and grand nephews. Bessie is predeceased by her husband Guy Sanders in 2000. Funeral service arrangements are pending.
