SOLBERG, Geraldine S
SOLBERG, Geraldine S. Geraldine S. Solberg was taken in the arms of her Savior to her home in Heaven on July 14, 2015. She was born on March 22, 1926, to Marvin and Gladys (Neumann) Smith in Jewel Ridge, Va. After graduating from Richlands High School in 1943, Gerry attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va., where she received her bachelor's degree in home economics with a minor in chemistry. She then attended George Washington University Law School where she received her law degree in 1953. She worked in the Legal Office on Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., where she met her husband, Chief Warrant Officer William O. Solberg. The couple were married on May 1, 1954, and moved to California when Bill separated from the Army. Gerry worked in the Office of Personnel Management at Edwards Air Force Base and for the Los Angeles Municipal Court before moving on to her most treasured role as a mother. Bill and Gerry raised three daughters - Kristine, Kimberly, and Katrina. She was very active in the lives of her children and could be found cheering at athletic games and attending band competitions as a booster of the Antelope Valley High School Marching Band. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and sang in the church choir for many years. A very active volunteer in the community, Gerry gave of her time as a volunteer in the Career Center at Antelope Valley High School and the Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center Auxiliary Gift Shop and Out-Patient Surgery Center. Gerry is survived by her children, Kristine (Brian) Dumke, Lancaster, Calif., Kim Schilens, Mesa, Ariz. and Katrina (Michael) Kriewall, East Grand Forks, Minn.; grandchildren, Chaz (Kelsey) Schilens, Queen Creek, Ariz., Adam (Danielle) Dumke, Palmdale, Calif., Jillian (Matthew) Rojas, Temecula, Calif., Kristin Kriewall, East Grand Forks, Minn. and Sarah Schilens, Mesa, Ariz.; great grandchildren, Brenlie and Rowe Schilens, Queen Creek, Ariz. and Jude Rojas, Temecula, Calif. and niece Karen (Anthony) Gardella, Golden, Colo.. She was preceded in death by her husband William Solberg; her parents, Marvin Smith and Gladys Herring; her sister and brother-in-law, Basil and Mildred Cook; and her great nephew Michael Flesher. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, July 20, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, 856 W Newgrove, Lancaster, CA. Interment will be in Joshua Memorial Park, Lancaster. The family would like to thank the Progressive Care Unit at Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center during her hospitalization.
