PHILLIPS, Beverly R
PHILLIPS, Beverly R. Passed away on May 12, 2015 at 89 years of age. Beverly was born in Chicago, Ill., the only child born to Ruth and George Way. Beverly became interested in dancing at an early age and joined the June Taylor Dancing Troupe in Chicago after graduating from High School. She lived a happy and carefree life while growing up in Indiana and later, Chicago. While dancing with the Troupe, she met M. Woodrow 'Woodie' Phillips, a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force at the time. They met while living in the same rooming house in Chicago. They got to know each others friends and had a lot of fun. They were married and honeymooned at Niagara Falls. The Air Force took them to Honolulu, Hawaii, Dayton, Ohio, and finally Edwards AFB in Southern California, where they made their home for 63 years. Beverly devoted her earlier years to maintaining the household and raising her children. She loved playing bridge and golf and volunteering in her spare time. She enjoyed oil painting for years. She always had a dog by her side. She would say she had a long and happy life. Preceding her in death is her beloved husband of 67 years, grandson Ryan, and great grandson Brennan. Beverly is survived by her three children; daughter Leslie (Steve), sons Paul (Alice), and Stan (Mary); 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; cousins; brother-in-law, sister-in- law, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm, Sat. July 11, 2015 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 43824 30th St. West in Lancaster. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the church food pantry. Beverly will be laid to rest with Woodie at the Bakersfield National Cemetery on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 9:15.
