MUNZ, Reva Ruth
MUNZ, Reva Ruth Age 88, passed into eternity on May 25, 2015 at her home on the west side of Lancaster with her children at her side. Preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Ralph Munz, she made her home in the Antelope Valley since 1949; the year she moved to Lancaster to teach English at Antelope Valley High School. Reva and Arnold were married for 46 years and raised 6 children while operating a grain and cattle ranch boardering the California Poppy Preserve. Reva, the 6th of 7 children, was born to Harry and Frances Rowley in Mitchell, South Dakota on February, 11, 1927. The farmfamily moved west during the Great Depression, and in 1936, established a successful dairy business in Colton, Calif. She attended Colton Union High School and especially enjoyed journalism classes. She achieved her Bachelor's Degree in English from Occidental College and was the editor of the yearbook and student paper. On an outing to view the wildflowers, she was introduced to her future husband, Arnold Munz, and they were married July 1, 1951. She suspended her teaching career to raise her family. Her children attended Del Sur School where she was a life member of the PTA. She served as a Westside Union Board of Trustee member from 1965 - 1973 and was president several times. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International from 1977 - 2006. She was actively involved in both the Cub Scouts and 4H Clubs. She attended United Methodist Church in Lancaster and, for a time, served as president of the United Methodist Women. Reva resumed her teaching career and taught English and Reading for the AV Union High School District from 1973 - 1989 and received her Master's Degree in 1979 from California State University, Northridge. Reva remained an educator at heart and her life was filled with poetry and prose. She created a stable, rural lifestyle, focused on spiritual and family connections, and opened her Munz ranch home to family and friends for decades. Reva will be missed by her children, Eric (Dianna) Munz of Boise, Idaho, Robyn (Marty) Steisslinger of Salinas, Calif., Dan Munz, Terry (Kathy) Munz, Anne Thart, and Barry (Sharon) Munz of Lancaster. Emphasizing family, Reva is honored by 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. We will all carry her memory in our hearts. Visitation is Friday, May 29, 2015 from 5 to 8 pm. at Joshua Memorial Park, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster, CA 93535. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11 am. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, 918 W Ave. J, Lancaster, CA 93534. Interment at Joshua Memorial Park will be followed by a reception at the Lancaster United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lancaster United Methodist Women in the name of Reva Munz. Joshua Memorial Park , Lancaster
