MARTIN, Harry W.
MARTIN, Harry W. Born on May 22, 1921 in Whittier, N.C., Harry passed away in Lancaster. He graduated from Western Carolina State University and is a USAF Retired Lt. Col. He served as a B-17 Pilot, flew 53 missions during World War II; stationed in Germany, Japan and Alaska. He earned a Distinguished Flying Cross and taught Military Law at Harvard and West Point. After retirement from the Air Force he worked 20yrs. as an Electronic Engineer for Litton Guidance Systems in Canoga Park, Calif. He was a dedicated Patriot, Father and Husband. Harry was honored locally by CIV Mil and the VFW Post 3000. He is survived by his wife of 46 yrs., Gale Martin; son Brian Martin and grandson Campbell Martin. Outside of California, he is survived by his four children, Rachel Ives, Debra Elzie, Douglas and Edwin MacMartin. He is also survived by his sister BerthAnn Buff; nieces, Maro Slaughter, Marianne and Marie; five other grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Military Honors Ceremony will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 10:45 am, Friday, May 22, 2015. 2 other local events will be from 1-3 pm, May 23, 2015 at Brookdale Senior Living, Lancaster; 1-3 pm, May 31, 2015 at The Village, Northridge and at 11 am, June 12, 2015 at Thomas Cemetery, Whittier, N.C.
