CRANE, Howard Max
CRANE, Howard Max Howard was born on Feb. 14, 1918 in Pratt, Kansas He died on April 6, 2015 in Lancaster, Calif. Howard was the third of eight children (two dying at birth) of William Edward and Emily Louise (Roy) Crane. He was preceded in death by four siblings, William, Royal, Louise and Gail and his two daughters. His brother Ross and sister Luce survive him. He is additionally survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and his stepsons. The Crane family moved to the Sacramento area in 1930 where Howard graduated from San Juan High School in 1938. He moved to southern California and went to work for Lockheed Aircraft. He served in the Navy in San Diego during World War II, discharged as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class Petty Officer. He married Betty Jeane Mueller on Dec. 31, 1947 and they had two daughters, Laura and Gale. Betty died in 1970. On Dec. 26, 1971, he married Cora Belle 'Corky' (Walburn) Miller (born Dec. 18, 1919 - died June 25, 2014), the mother of two sons, Mitch and Glenn Miller. After forty-one plus years with Lockheed, mostly in flight line and experimental mechanical and electrical projects. Howard retired in 1983, along with Corky. He was busy in his retirement. He was actively involved with the Genealogy Society. He and Corky also traveled extensively and researched family history. They toured most of the U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska, taking their motorhome up the Al-Can Highway. They also visited England, the Philippines and Hong Kong. There will be a graveside service at 2 pm, April 20, 2015 at Desert Lawn, Palmdale In lieu of flowers, the family would value the sharing of a written remembrance of Howard.
