LaRIVIERE, Arthur Honore Art
LaRIVIERE, Arthur Honore 'Art' Age 96, passed away peacefully, with loving family present on Sunday Feb. 15, 2015 in Duarte, Calif. Art was born Nov. 30, 1918 on a farm in St. Pierre, Manitoba, Canada, where he was the eldest of 12 children. He married his love, Therese Bourjeois, in May of 1944 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Art and Therese emigrated to the U.S. in 1946, joining family members in Southern California. Art established his own printing business in the Culver City area, which remained open for 30 years. He and Therese raised their two beautiful children, Marc and Louise. After retiring from the printing business, they moved to Lancaster, Calif. Art was a man of faith and actively contributed to many Catholic Church activities. He was active in the Knights of Columbus for many years, achieving the rank of 4th Degree Knight. He co-founded the Lancaster Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and participated in running the center for 30 years, and acted as treasurer for the Society for a number of years as well. His countless hours with St. Vincent de Paul contributed to the betterment of many, many lives in the Antelope Valley. Arthur was also very devoted to the Carmelite religious sisters in Alhambra, Calif., and became a professed secular member of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, in 1996. One of Art's other loves was his violin. He was self-taught, starting out playing with his brothers and sisters. He became an avid and accomplished player, and loved entertaining his friends at many church events. Art's graceful, generous spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Art is survived by his loving wife Therese, son Marc LaRiviere; daughter-in-law Leticia Valenzuela; son-in-law Curtis Garner; grandchildren, Michael and Alejandro LaRiviere and Scott and Stephanie Garner, as well as 5 sisters, Irene, Therese, Yvette, Yvonne and Corinne. He was preceded in death by his daughter Louise Garner who passed away in 2011. The vigil and rosary will he held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Mumaw Funeral Home, 44663 Date Avenue, Lancaster, CA at 7pm - visitation hours will be held from 5pm to 7pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church, 565 W Kettering Street, Lancaster, CA at 11am, with burial immediately following at Good Shepherd Cemetery, 43121 70th Street West, Lancaster, CA.
