Obituary Notices and Memorials

SLATON, Loy Age 91, passed away Monday, January 26 in Surprise, Arizona following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris; his son Jim and wife Kelly; daughter in law Debbie; three grandsons, Jonathon (Megan), Justin and Daniel (Danielle); two grand daughters, Jennifer (Jim) and Amber; along with 11 great grandchildren. Loy was preceded in death by his parents and his son Frank. Loy also leaves behind countless friends, former co-workers, neighbors and camping buddies. Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the son of Loy and Verda Slaton, he graduated from Okmulgee High School. Loy is also a veteran of World War II where he served with the Army Air Force as an Airplane Flight Chief and Mechanic. Loy moved his family to Lancaster in 1955 and lived there until 2013 when he moved to Arizona, to be closer to this son and daughter in law. He retired from Lockheed and spent his retirement years surrounded by friends and family while enjoying baseball games, boating, working on cars and drinking Budweiser beer (not necessarily in that order). The family wishes to thank his caregivers in Arizona, Angela and Anna along with his doctor in Lancaster, Dr. Parazo and nurse Tammy. Loy was a character truly defined by his innate ability to bring people together with his infectious smile, quick wit and humor. We know he is at peace and is reunited with his beloved son, Frank. A Celebration of Life will take place in Lancaster at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations made to: Hoffman Hospice, in Loy's name.
