REECE, Flora Belle Smith
REECE, Flora Belle Smith Flora died in her sleep on December 1, 2014 from complications following a ruptured brain aneurysm. Mom (Flora Belle) served many roles during her 90 years; from child to parent to grandparent to great grandparent, from family friend to 'in loco parentis' (being one or more of aunt/grandmother/parent as needed), from civilian to WASP and Congressional Gold Medical Recipient, from student to teacher & from Peace Corps volunteer to missionary, she led a rich and varied life, inspiring many in each of her roles. She collected pet names from young children: Bee-Belle, Honey, Aunt Pool, and Pom-Pom, to list a few. She also loved to give pet names herself: Suzie Q, Judy B-Bo, stitchy-bones, warty, & old man of the mountain (daddy). She was active in her church, presenting her WASP slide show, aviation clubs & flying whenever the opportunity arose right up to the fall that sent her to the UCLA hospital. Flora was born October 21, 1924 in Sayre, Okla. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ralph Anderson Reece (RAIII), her daughter Cherryl Suzanne, both parents (Robert Jesse & Agnes), and 3 siblings (James Evan Smith, Mary Lea Jenkins and LaWanda Rushing).
