CARLO, Dr. Sheila Vaughan
CARLO, Dr. Sheila Vaughan Beloved wife, step-mother, psychologist and educator, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at her home in Palmdale, California. Sheila was born in Pasadena on August 26, 1930. She joined the Immaculate Heart Order in 1948, received Bachelor's and Masters degrees in Biology, and taught school for several years. In 1964, Sheila became the principal of Paraclete High School, the first Catholic high school in Antelope Valley, and continued in that position until 1968. Thereafter, Sheila decided to leave the Order and attended UCLA, where she earned her PhD in Psychology. Sheila went on to a distinguished career as a psychologist specializing in the education of high IQ children. She was affiliated with the Mirman School for many years, while continuing to maintain a private practice. She also oversaw placement of graduates in psychiatric training at UCLA Medical School. Sheila and her husband Victor Carlo enjoyed their life together enormously, until Vic passed away in 2010. Sheila traveled extensively throughout her life, including trips to Russia, Indonesia and Europe to study their educational systems. We will miss Sheila's gentle smile, witty insights, and the many stories of her travels and experiences as an educator. Sheila is survived by her step-sons, John and Michael; step-daughter Candace and her husband Robert Chapman, and step-grandson William Chapman. Sheila's funeral mass will be held at Blessed Junipero Serra Parish, 42121 60th Street West, Lancaster, California 93536, at 12 noon, Friday, January 23, 2015. An additional service and interment will take place at Hollywood Hills Forest Lawn, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California 90068, at 12:30 pm, Monday, January 26, 2015.
