PURKEY, Neil D. Born Dec. 19, 1921 to John H. and Alice Purkey in Casper, Wyo., passed away Dec. 24, 2014 at home in Palmdale, Calif. A 55 year resident of the AV, Neil grew up in Concord, Calif. He was a navigator with the U.S. Army Air Force from Dec. 4, 1943 - Oct. 28, 1945, flying bombing missions over the European and Pacific theatre. He was discharged as a first Lieutenant. A registered Pharmacist from University of Arizona School of Pharmacy, Neil served as one of the first Director of Pharmacies at Antelope Valley Hospital for 33 years. He started working at AV hospital Oct. 1959 and retired in Jan. 1991. He loved traveling, reading, scuba diving and water sports. He is survived by his wife Laverna Clara Morgan Purkey; his son, Morris (Ceil), Grass Valley, Calif., and his daughter, Zoa Dodd, Lancaster, Calif. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Dorothy and first wife Norma. Memorial service will be held at 10 am, Jan. 9, 2015 at Joshua Memorial Park, Lancaster
