HENRY, Rae S.
HENRY, Rae S. Dec. 3, 1928 - Dec. 15, 2014 Rae S. Henry died peacefully at home in West Linn, Ore. She was born in Appleton, Wis., the youngest of three daughters to Max and Francis Meyer (Hammel). She met Robert Andrews in 1947. Once married, she completed her BA at Defiance College, Ohio, while raising their three children. They enjoyed a few years of happiness before Bobs death. Rae re-married John P. Henry in 1955, and moved to Palmdale, Calif. Within 20 years she had nine more children, giving her the twelve she always wanted. In 1973, she became a single mother. Just when she needed it most, she was blessed with a job at the Calif. Employment Dept., retiring as an adjudicator in 1993. In 1995 she moved to Oregon City, Ore., near daughters. We remember car trips, camping, mornings by the fire, every art and craft, the 'cranky grandma' in the Willamette Living History Tour, crosswords, volunteering, babysitting, and enduring friendships in sorority, where over 44 years she held almost every position. A spark-plug for getting things done, she skillfully drafted others to help. She fiercely asserted her independence always, but couldn't have lived as well as she did without the support and caring of family and friends. Described as the 'mother of all'; she never turned away anyone in need, adopting them into her heart. Many call her 'mom' and 'gram'. At this time of year, her children especially miss her as they look at her annual handmade Christmas gifts. Well miss her smiling face and stories, the way she corrected our grammar, and being inspired by her unique and spunky attitude. Like in the winning poem she wrote for the Palmdale Lilac Festival in 1989, she lived 'life with zing'! She is preceded in death by her husband Robert, ex-husband John, daughter 'Amie' Alice M. Pelsey, and sisters Ellen Howard and Jane Nystedt. She is survived by her remaining 11 children, Robin Gage (John), Joseph Andrews (Barbara Hensleigh), Sue Andrews, John Henry Jr. (Barbara), Ruth Offer (Jerry), Teresa Chimbole (Steve), Tim Henry (Maria), Chris Henry, Mark Henry, Mary Nayar (Deepak), and Paul Henry (Emily); her 29 grand, and 10 great grandchildren; her nieces and nephews, and her faithful companion of 10 years, Sadie, her beloved golden retriever. Raes celebration of life is January 3, 2015 in West Linn, OR. Another event is being planned for family and friends in Palmdale. Donations to: Transportation Reaching People.
