Born in Kansas City, Kan., on November 4, 1915, Bob financed his college education at Wooster College Ohio by playing semi-pro football and baseball. He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He served as an officer in the US Navy throughout World War II as a radar expert and was deployed in the Pacific. He retained his commission serving in the Naval Reserve for 20 years. After the war Bob returned to his work as an electrical engineer at Eastman Kodak in upper state New York. In 1954 he and his wife Jeannette (deceased) and their four young children moved across country to the San Fernando Valley in California where he began his new job as an electrical engineer at Lockheed Aircraft. Bob worked there for 30 years and was instrumental in the development of the L-1011 aircraft. Throughout life Bob was physically active in sports and greatly enjoyed the out-of-doors. Bob and Jeanette were loving parents and provided an enriched environment for their growing children. Family camping trips throughout the West and twice in Mexico, weekend hiking, and trips to the beach were favorite pastimes. Reading and music were favorites at home. The Wood family was active in church and in scouting. Bob enjoyed time spent with his sons as scoutmaster for their troop and supported dance lessons and horseback riding for his daughters. Bob and his second wife Estelle (Louise) Marie Durocher (deceased) enjoyed life together in Palmdale for 36 years. After retirement, Bob and Estelle made many RV cross country trips entertaining folks at various venues. Estelle, a professional singer, sang and Bob organized her music and posted show notices, they had a good time and brought happiness to many others. Their trip to France was a real highlight for them. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to laugh. He never complained, was always a gentleman and was a reserved but deeply loving man. We are grateful to have had him for 99 years and his absence will be truly felt. Graveside service will be held at 11 am, Dec. 20, 2014 at Eternal Valley, Newhall.
