ANDREWS, Allen Lee
ANDREWS, Allen Lee Born January 11, 1942 in Los Angeles to Frank Byron Andrews and Annis Andrews. Allen went home to be with the Lord on Sunday December 7, 2014. Allen Grew up in Gardena, California until his family moved to Lancaster in 1956. His parents came for the summer with Al and his two brothers to manage the local ice skating rink. Allen's family enjoyed Lancaster and Melody Ice Gardens and moved permanently to the AV. Allen played ice hockey and skated year around. Allen graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1959. He went to Antelope Valley community college then on to Orange Coast College finishing his studies at Cal Poly University at Pomona, Calif. He received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. He later received an honorary Doctorate in philosophy in religious studies from Friends International Christian University. Allen met Patricia, the love of his life at Melody Ice Gardens. Patricia's 8 year old, son Mark was playing ice hockey and Allen was his coach. One date and six weeks later they married. Allen and Patricia were married for 42 years. Allen began a career in banking before going to work for Lockheed Corporation in 1969. He worked as an international salesman on the L-1011 Tristar project traveling the world over several years. He was promoted to Director of corporate finances for Lockheed Corporation in his final years and left the company after 17 years to serve in full time ministry. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and worked to begin several business ventures of his own while also helping many others in their businesses over the years. He had much business wisdom to share and was a contributing author in two books and authored numerous articles on the subject. Allen served on the board of directors for Grace Resources, which serves the community and the homeless in the Antelope Valley. His association and friendship with Grace Resource Center founder Steve Baker goes back to 1974. Allen went to work in 1992 as an adjunct faculty member of Antelope Valley Community College teaching computer applications. This is where he discovered his love and gift for teaching. He taught at the college for 22 years. Allen was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in 1998 by Antelope Valley Christian Center where he regularly taught the word of God and served the people of his church and community. Allen is survived by his wife Patricia; daughter Kelly Hanson (Kevin); son Mark Andrews (Crystal); grandchildren, Wendy Offen (Jason), Joel Hanson (Lydia), Matthew Andrews (Michelle), Nicholas Andrews, Natalie Andrews; great-grandchildren Gabriel Andrews, Odin Andrews, Roxie Andrews, Elizabeth Hanson, Madison Hanson, Grace Hanson, Reese Offen; brother Thomas Carlton Andrews (Roberta), nieces, Jody Truelove, Debra, and Erin Lorentsen and nephews, Jason Lorentsen, and Jeff Sargent. He is preceded in rest by his father Frank Andrews, mother Annis Andrews, and older brother Frank B Andrews Jr. Allen was a loved by his family, friends and colleagues. He touched many lives with love and kindness. He will truly be missed. Services will be held at 11 am, Dec. 16, 2014 at Antelope Valley Christian Center, 304 W.
