McDARIS, Eugene Red
McDARIS, Eugene 'Red' Born January 1, 1932 in Inola, Okla., to Orba and Jessie McDaris, passed away surrounded by his loving family on September 1, 2014 in San Diego, Calif. Eugene was the last surviving sibling of 8. After graduating high school he helped his father on the farm before joining the Air Force. He served honorably for 4 years during the Korean War and was part of a crew, which flew 36 hours nonstop to Okinawa. Upon returning home, he worked for Douglas in Tulsa and attended University of Oklahoma. After which he transferred to Douglas in Santa Monica to work on the Missile Program. In 1962, he began his long career with Lockheed, most of which was spent with The Skunk Works. During his career at Lockheed he worked on the A-12, SR-71, L-1011, F-117 and Unmanned Aircraft. He retired in 2000 to enjoy his growing family, to travel the world with his loving wife, relax and indulge in gardening and his many hobbies. He is survived by his devoted wife Sandy; his loving daughters, Michelle, Melina (Satish), and Monica (Darang); grandchildren, (Sophia, Camden, Alyssa and Samira); brother-in-law Nick Thomas (Kakuko), their children (Brittany, Blake and Dylan) and his sister-in-law Suzanne Thomas. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Sunder for his compassion and exceptional care. Services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Grace Chapel 44648 15th St. W., Lancaster, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association in memory of Eugene McDaris.
