EMCH, John Frederick
EMCH, John Frederick April 5, 1935 - August 2, 2014 Born in Walbridge, Ohio. John's family moved to southern California in 1939 when his father was serving in the U.S. Navy with the blimps in Orange County. After attending school in Santa Ana, John worked for the Cherry Rivet Company before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1954. He completed Air Traffic Controller (ATC) School in Biloxi, Mississippi and spent time teaching there as well. John served in Newfoundland and New York at Stewart AFB, where he met Frankye and they married in the base chapel in 1962. After discharge from the Air Force they moved to Santa Ana, Calif. John began work at the Los Angeles Air Traffic Control Center at Los Angeles Airport, and over the ensuing years worked at the Palmdale Control Center, Burbank Control Tower, Oakland airport, and returned to Palmdale Control Center in 1974. In 1966, son Brian was born while living in Burbank. Daughter Sandra was born in 1973 while living in Fremont. The Emch family moved to Lancaster in late 1974 when John returned to work at the Palmdale Air Traffic Control Center. John retired from working several times Ð returning over the years to work for DISC, Lockheed Martin, and the Smith Brothers Hobby Shop. John was a leader in Cub and Boy Scouts with his son Brian during the 1970s and 1980s and enjoyed camping, hiking, and all sorts of outdoor activities. John's favorite hobby was flying radio- controlled airplanes and he was active with the Antelope Valley Tailwinds organization, serving repeatedly in multiple officer positions. John loved woodworking and built many pieces of furniture over the years for family and friends. Having lived in the same home for 40 years, John was well known in his neighborhood; neighbors dubbed him "The Neighborhood Angel" because he frequently cared for other's peoples home when they vacationed and always available to whoever needed help. John was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Cecelia Emch, and his sister, Glenna Joan Stacey. He is survived by his wife Frankye; son Brian Emch; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gabriel Knoy; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Knoy and Frankie Knoy, who live in Cotati, Calif.; Niece Mary Lawson and her children, Jason Lawson, Michael Lawson (Stephanee), and Bobby Lawson, and their children, Evan Tyler, Malachi, Ruby, and Liam. Niece Susan Mesa (Tony), and her children Meagan Vaccaro (Nick), and Chelsea Calma; Brothers-in-law Carl (KennaGene) Bennett, Robert (Judy) Bennett, and Michael (Karen) Bennett, as well as many friends. Services will be Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 1pm at Mumaw Funeral Home, 44663 Date Ave, Lancaster, CA 93534. Dress is casual and guests are encouraged to wear red, John's favorite color and/or their favorite airplane shirt. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may donate in honor of John F.
