DENKER, Betty Willits
DENKER, Betty Willits Age 86 of Florence, Oregon passed away July 19, 2014. Betty Denker was born on March 12, 1928, in Long Beach, California to Edward and Agnes Willits. She passed away peacefully in her home with Burchard John Denker (John), her loving husband of 47 years by her side. Betty graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing at the age of 21. She raised her children in the city of Lancaster, California. In 1968 she married John and together their blended family included, her 6 children and his two children. Betty was a registered nurse and worked as a surgical nurse at Antelope Valley hospital; a LA County Public Health Nurse, and at Kaiser Permanente. Midway through her career she trained at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center where she obtained her certification as a Nurse Practitioner, joining the pioneering class of Nurse Practitioners in California. Upon retirement, John and Betty moved to Florence. They spent much of their retirement traveling around the country and the world, and often spent six months of the year traveling leisurely in their 5th wheel throughout Arizona and California. Betty is survived by her husband John; sons, Terrance, Patrick, Thomas and Chris; daughters, Mary, Bernadette, and Constance; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John Dillon. Betty was a very caring and loving mother and devoted wife. She had a passion of doing for others. While living in Florence she volunteered at the local hospital with a group of women knitting hats, baby boots and socks for newborn babies. Betty and John also delivered food to neighbors through Meals on Wheels program. Our family was very fortunate to have her for 86 years, but it didn't feel like we had enough time with this special woman. Betty was loved dearly and will be missed by her family and friends. A graveside service will be held on Friday August 1, 2014 at 11 am at the Pine Mountain Cemetery in Atascadero, CA.
