HOBBS, Leonard George
HOBBS, Leonard G. 'Len' Feb. 24, 1921- May 20, 2014 Born in London, England and patriotic citizen of the United States of America lived life richly and fully. Len began his career flying career as a Royal Air Force pilot during World War II where he achieved the rank of Squadron Leader. Following World War II he continued his flying career in Canada and the United States as a commercial test pilot for Avro, Boeing and Lockheed. As a commercial pilot, Len flew for Iran Air, Egypt Air and Royal Jordanian Air. Upon retirement Len and his wife Clara moved to Cypress where they lived for several years aboard their sailing yacht 'Solient Spray'. Though a world traveler Len considered Quartz Hill, Calif., to be his home. When Len and his wife Clara returned to Quartz Hill in the late 1980's they reestablished their roots in Quartz Hill by devoting much of their time and energy to community service. Len was a member of Rotary International, proudly served 20 years and received numerous awards as a Los Angeles County Volunteer Deputy Sheriff, served as President of Quartz Hill Friends of the Library, President and Ambassador of the Quartz Hill Chamber of Commerce, served the Quartz Hill Town Council and presided over the Almond Blossom Parade as Grand Marshal. He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Lee) Nance and her son Christopher Andrews; granddaughter, Felicia Ross and son Andrew Dehne; granddaughter, Kristin Viehmann (Justin Thompson) and son Braden; Steve Viehmann (Jeneka Hickok); granddaughter Katrina Keller, Chelsea Hobbs, and her children, stepdaughters, Victoria Nix-Cheatum (Gary), Elizabeth Nix-Flanagan and daughter Molly; nephews, Andy (Norma) Hobbs, Graham Hobbs and Dick Hobbs; nieces, Cathy Young-Hobbs and Ros Hobbs all of Great Britain. He is preceded in death by his brothers; first wife, Joan Braddel-Hobbs; second wife, Clara Hobbs; daughters, April, Melody Hobbs-Keller, Cathy, and Candice, and grandson, Timothy Lee Hobbs. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, June 28, 2014 at George Lane Park, meeting room, Quartz Hill, CA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Friends of the Quartz Hill Library.
