MURPHY, Mary Jane
MURPHY, Mary Jane Age 81, of Palmdale, Calif., passed away after a brief illness on May 18, 2014. She was born in Lambert, Pa. on January 11, 1933, the 9th of 12 children of Mary and Stephen Nypaver. Mary Jane enjoyed an idyllic childhood growing up in Uniontown, Pa., that included many happy Sunday outings at her grandparents' farm playing among the haystacks and picking blackberries. After graduating from St. John's High School in Uniontown at the top of her class, Mary Jane was quickly hired as a secretary for the Amour Meat Packing Company. Her sense of adventure led her to Washington DC, where she attended George Washington University and began modeling for local department stores. It was there that she also began a career with the CIA that would take her all the way to Japan in 1957. While stationed in Atsugi Naval Air Station she would meet her true love, Robert Murphy, whom she married on November 21, 1959. Mary Jane and Robert settled in the Antelope Valley where they raised their four children to have the same sense of adventure, optimism, deep faith and love of travel that brought them together. In addition to her loving husband, Robert F. Murphy of Palmdale, Calif., Mary Jane is survived by her four children, Robert Murphy of Encinitas, Calif., Diane Dunnigan and her husband John Dunnigan of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Michelle Barta and her husband Mike Barta of Ashburn, Va., and Neal Murphy and his wife Kelly Murphy of Boise, Idaho; her beloved siblings, Josephine Ferry of Alexandria, Va., Mildred Goberni and her husband Paul Goberni of Chambersburg, Pa., Eleanor Ungashick and her husband Bill Ungashick of Canton, Ohio, John Nypaver and his wife, Eleanor Nypaver of Uniontown, Pa., and Francis Nypaver of Cleveland, Ohio, and 12 beautiful grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, May 28, 2014 at the Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe. Interment follows at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
