SHIBLEY, Leonard Daryl
SHIBLEY, Leonard Daryl Born April 3, 1922, in Berryville, Ark. At 92, he passed due to natural causes, at his long-time home in Lancaster, Calif. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Marcella Irene Norris Shibley. They came to the Antelope Valley separately, met, married, and raised their family. Daryl was a World War II Naval veteran. He was a rancher in his early life, as foreman of Fletcher Wiley's Taboose Creek Ranch, near Independence, Calif., where he and his family developed a lifelong love of fishing and hiking in the Sierras. He then worked at the Wiley Ranch east of Lancaster, where the family lived for many years, until Daryl's sister, Fern, convinced him to work at the Lancaster Post Office, where her husband, Earl Masters, would soon become Postmaster. (Both Earl, and then Fern, have since passed.) Daryl worked at the Lancaster Post Office for 29 years. After two heart attacks, he retired in 1981. He left many friends and co-workers who respected and admired him. After retirement, Daryl had more time to fulfill his love of exploring. He loved his wife dearly, and together they traveled many roads. Daryl was a man of integrity; 'doing the right thing' was his hallmark. He was intelligent, just and moral; though he loved to tease. He was a good father and a good provider. He was a tender and affectionate grandpa. In addition to his wife; Daryl is survived by his five children, Sue Nell Shibley Palm (David), Joetta Shibley Wade (Tom, deceased), Elouise Shibley Connell, James Shibley (Eileen) and Bruce Shibley; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, including four yet to be born; and four great-great- grandchildren. Daryl wished to die at home, and did, where his children cared for him with guidance from hospice. He sometimes apologized for the burden. It was not a burden, Dad; it was an honor. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, April 14, 2014, at Mumaw Funeral Home, 44663 Date Avenue, Lancaster, Calif.
