MERRITT, Barbara
MERRITT, Barbara June 26, 1946 - March 9, 2014 Barbara Merritt, 67, a loving mother, grandmother and wife of James Merritt, the husband who loved her with all his heart, passed away on Sunday in Lancaster, Calif. She was born Barbara Theresa Balsamo in Newark, N.J., to Fred and Genevieve, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley, but she was a resident of the Antelope Valley for 34 years. Barbara married the true love of her life, James, on May 26, 1993, and the couple lived a very happy life together, often enjoying day trips to Indian casinos, visits to Las Vegas, vacations to Hawaii, and their time together at home with their three pups, Shadow, Maggie and Sammy Joe. Barbara's family was the centerpiece of her life. Words can't describe how she'll be missed. A successful marketing director and office administrator, Barbara's proudest role was as the very best mother and wife anyone could ever imagine or want. She is survived by her husband; her three sisters (and their spouses); Roberta (and Jack) Maley, Patricia (and Don) Rieck and Marilyn (and Gabriel) Lopez. Additionally, Barbara leaves behind seven children (and their spouses), Pamela (and Ralph) Campbell, Tamora Swain, Deborah (and Jeff) Marshall, Ronald (and Renee) Rubio, Patricia (and David) Wilson, Jeanne (and Brian) Negvesky and Jeffrey (and Shivali) Ober; her two step-children, Anthony Merritt and Lora Merritt; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her youngest sister, Deborah Mazzanti, and her mother and father. A viewing will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Fri., March 14 at Joshua Memorial Park and Mortuary, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster, CA 93535, and Barbara's service is at 11 am, on Sat., March 15, 2014 at the same place.
