KENNEPOHL, Anne June
KENNEPOHL, Anne June Born July 17, 1914 in Los Angeles, California. Her goal was to reach 130 years old, but it was not to be. She passed away on December 28, 2013 in Lancaster, California. In earlier days, she worked in Los Angeles, as an Elevator Operator and as a Sales Girl at a large department store, she became a person who worked in any and all locations whatever was needed. Anne was a office head girl during war time at Bethlehem Steel. She moved to Lancaster after her father died to assist her mother with the Alfalfa Ranch at 50th St. W. and Ave. K. She worked at Bank of America in the merchant sales office, then later at Shannon's Carpet store in accounting, sales and general management when the owner was not available. Anne was a Matron of Holy Cross Church of Palmdale and lovingly referred to as the 'Arch Matuska'. Anne was a life member of the Eastern Star where she held every station including Worthy Matron of the Colonial Degree which traveled to many other western star meetings in their colonial regalia. As a world traveler she went to Ukraine to visit her forbears and the Semerenko State Park, named for her great-great-grandfather and the apple he developed. She was the daughter of Antelope Valley pioneers, Kornay and Mary Semerenko, whom developed an alfalfa ranch on the southwest corner of 60th St. W. and Ave. K, now a school. At an Elks dance she met Ken Kennepohl and three years later married him and it lasted as pledged for life. Anne and Ken explored many countries, mostly Asian and Pacific such as Fiji, Hawaii, and around the Mediterranean and Australia, etc., and much of the USA. Including a cruise through the Panama Canal and cruises in small 65 passenger cruises in Alaska. Anne is survived by her husband Kenneth Kennepohl; nephews, Rick and Wally Semerenko and niece Sherry Pivovaroff. Viewing will be at 10 am - 11 am, Saturday, January 4, 2014 with Funeral services at 11 am, at Holy Cross Antiochian Church, 38201 6th St. E. Palmdale, CA, followed by a reception at the Elks Lodge, 240 E Avenue K, Lancaster, CA. Interment will be held at 11 am, Monday, January 6, 2014 at Lancaster Cemetery.
