KEMPKEN, Herbert Louis ('Red'), went to be with his Savior on August 28, 2013. Daughter Carolyn Kempken-King preceded him in death in 1991. Herb was born to the late Henry and Alta Kempken, on April 5, 1930 in Washington. Herb joined the Air Force in 1948 and was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base. He married Gloria in 1951. Together they made their home and raised their family in Lancaster until 1999. After Herb left the Air Force he worked and retired as a civilian employee at Edwards Air Force Base and returned to work at the Rocket Site until 1999. In 1999, Herb and Gloria relocated to Arizona and returned to the Antelope Valley last year. Herb served as church deacon and trustee, Boy Scout leader, coach and president of Monte Vista Little League. He was a PTA Life Member and Hunter Safety instructor. Herb was an avid photographer, carpenter and mechanic, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. Herb is survived by Gloria, his wife of 62 years, daughters Sheila Wells (Scott), Marilyn Ayers (Joe), sons Dan Kempken (Val) and Dave Kempken. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Hoffman Hospice 635 West Ave Q, Suite A, Palmdale, CA 93551. There will be no services. Halley Olsen Murphy, Lancaster
