DIBONA, Helene Rosenberg
DIBONA, Helene Rosenberg 86, died peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Palmdale Regional Medical Center, Palmdale, Calif., following a sudden brief illness. Helene was born November 25, 1926 in Manhattan N.Y., to the late Alphonse and Adele Rosenberg. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California Berkeley where she chaired the English department. In the 1960s Helene moved to Durham North Carolina where she was an English professor at North Carolina Central University until retirement. Helene was passionate about literature and an avid reader. She played the recorder and enjoyed listening to classical music, especially Bach. She loved traveling, organic gardening, gourmet cooking and eating out. She is survived by her sister Elise Zentner of Cupertino, Calif., daughter Nicole (Peter) Peterson of Vt, Pietro A. DiBona (Helen) of Perth Australia, grandchildren Andrew and Julia Peterson, Isaac, Renee and Aaron DiBona, nephews Bruce and Paul Zentner and best friend and housemate Lola Rigby of Lancaster Calif. Helene was deeply loved by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held in Massachusetts at a later time. Helene was of the Jewish faith. Helene was generous and donated to many charities helping wildlife, hunger and the ASPCA. In lieu of flowers please donate to the local ASPCA
