COURTNEY, Larry Vance A long-time resident of Lancaster, California, died on Friday, August 30, 2013.He was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on July 24, 1941.He served in the US Air Force (1962-67); Edwards AFB was his first duty station after training at Lackland Air Force Base. He deployed from Edwards to Korat, Thailand during the Vietnam war and then was stationed at George Air Force Base.When his enlistment was up, he joined Lockheed, helping to build the L1011. In 1970 Larry obtained his contractors license and established Courtney Construction.For health reasons, Larry had to retire in 1995.Prior to his illness, Larry was very active in Toastmasters, was a SCORE (Service Core of Retired Executives) counselor, and active at St. Pauls Episcopal Church.Larry is survived by Carla, his wife of 48 years; son David and daughter-in-law Michelle, who was his care-giver for the last 16 months; grandchildren Taylor, Hunter, and Shawn; sister Leatrice (Okey), brother Leonard, nieces Polly and Teresa, and nephew Richard.Memorial donations may be made to Saddle Up Therapeutic Riding Center either by mail at 41455 20thSt. W., Palmdale, Calif. 93551 or online at God saw you and he did what he knew best, he came and sat beside you and whispered come and rest. You bid no one farewell, not even a good-bye, You were gone before we knew it only God knows why. God gave us strength to bear it and courage to take the pain but what it meant to lose you cannot be explained. You did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You will forever live in our hearts, now rest in peace with God.
