ROBINSON, Donald Ray (Reginald
ROBINSON, Donald Ray (Reginald, Reggie, Reg) Born September 9, 1940, in Crowley, La., to mother Olivia McCoy, who preceded him in death. Passed away in Lancaster, Calif., on May 26, 2013. He came to the Antelope Valley in 1952, and attended Del Sur Elementary School. Donald was a 1958 graduate of Antelope Valley High School where he athletically excelled on both baseball and basketball varsity teams. After graduation, he attended Antelope Valley College for two years. Donald worked briefly for the Palmdale School District as a night custodian. In 1967, he began his career with the Los Angeles County Road Department. He was the first African American hired by L.A. County in the Antelope Valley area to the Road Maintenance Department from which he retired in 1998. Some favorite things enjoyed by Donald were coaching both Little League and Pony League Baseball, watching Dodger and Laker games, fishing, cooking/barbecuing, entertaining, music (especially the blues) and watching westerns. He also enjoyed traveling and solving crossword puzzles. Donald is survived by his devoted family, wife, Brenda Dyson-Robinson, his son Darryl R. Robinson, his daughter Deidre R. Robinson, his brother Garland 'Bing' Johnson (Deborah), his granddaughters Danielle R. Robinson and Tiffanie L. Montgomery-Allen (Joseph), his sister-in-law Cynthia Dyson, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved his family dearly and cherished the time spent with them. He has a host of friends and made a special memory with everyone he met..he never met a stranger! Donald will be forever loved and thought of with deep admiration. We trust he is peacefully resting in the loving arms of our Almighty Lord and Savior for eternity. The viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013, at Joshua Memorial Park, 808 East Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster, Calif. The service to honor and celebrate the life of Donald Ray Robinson will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Growin Valley Baptist Church, 44818 North 20th St. West, Lancaster, Calif. Arrangements entrusted to Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster.
