SLAYTON, Wanda Lee (Ridge)
SLAYTON, Wanda Lee (Ridge) A resident of the Antelope Valley for 38 years, passed away May 17, 2013, at the age of 87. She was born April 25, 1926, in Catoosa, Okla., and grew up in Broken Arrow, Okla., where she married James 'Jim' Slayton in 1945. Wanda and Jim moved to California in 1948, and lived in the Central Valley for several years before settling in Manhattan Beach, Calif., and then retiring in Palmdale, Calif. Wanda is survived by her husband of 68 years James W. Slayton, three daughters, Linda Nicholson (John) of Lancaster, Calif., Brenda Church (Don) of Quartz Hill, Calif., and Barbara Gale Nolan (Mike) of Dallas, Ore.; four grandsons, John Nicholson (Sue), Donald 'Scott' Church (Christine), Jeff Nicholson (Rita) and Lance Church (Brandi); five great-grandchildren, Colton Nicholson, Kylie Church, Cody Church, Cole Nicholson and Jack Nicholson; also, her brother Robert Ridge of Broken Arrow, Okla., and sister-in- law, Mary Ruiz of Leona Valley, Calif., as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends. Wanda was preceded in death by parents Zula and Jess Ridge and two brothers, Herbert Franklin 'Hank' Ridge and James 'Jim' Ridge. Wanda was an avid reader and loved quilting, fishing, gardening and entertaining. She will be missed by all that knew her and those whose lives she touched. Cremation is being handled by Hicks Mortuary in Palmdale, Calif. A Celebration of life will take place at a later date.
