NEIS, Merven L.
NEIS, Merven L. Born January 27, 1921, in Hope, Kansas to Clarence and Emma Neis. Passed away May 11, 2013, in Lancaster, Calif., quietly in his sleep at the age of 92. Merv served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp, flying over 25 missions in the South Pacific in B25/B26 bombers with the 69th Bomb Squadron. When Merv returned to the states in 1943, he married the love of his life Ruth Emig on September 17th, in Wichita, Kansas. They were stationed in Greenville, S.C., where their first son Lee was born in 1945. They then moved to San Gabriel, Calif., and had two more sons Bob and Dave. He joined the LA County Sheriffs Dept., in November 1947, and a transfer with the Sheriffs Dept. brought the family to the Antelope Valley in 1961, where he was assigned to the Detective Bureau at the AV Sheriff Station. They built their home and eventually settled in Quartz Hill. he worked as a detective until his retirement July 1973. After retirement he and Ruth traveled in their trailer, playing lots of Golf and working in Death Valley and they loved going to Stateline as well. In his many years in the Antelope Valley he was extremely prominent in many youth activities. He was a former president of the Rebel Boosters Club (Quartz Hill High School) and was very active in Little League, both as a manager and umpire and a lifetime member of the VFW. In addition to his parents Merv was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 67 years Ruth, his sisters Elaine Morrison, Marilyn Luce and brother Dean Neis. He is survived by three sons, Lee (Marie) of Bishop, Bob (Sherry) of Tehachapi and Dave (Maureen) Neis of Palmdale, grandchildren, Nikki Rossy (Bryan), Chele Shaw (Weylan), Chris (Jennifer), Mike (Jody), Stephanie, Josh and Paul Neis, great- grandchildren Summer, Laura, Kevin, Haley, Christopher and Addison, numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mervs life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Valley Bible Church 3347 West Ave J. The family would love to invite you to fellowship and share memories with them. The service will be conducted by his grandson Mike Neis. Arrangements entrusted to Halley Olsen Murphy, Palmdale. In lieu of flowers he has requested donations be made to the VFW in Quartz Hill.
