FATE, Fred
FATE, Fred Born July 18, 1937, in Taft, Calif. Passed away at his home in Acton, on February 11, 2013, succumbing to cancer. He grew up in San Fernando Valley and Oregon. He has lived in the Antelope Valley for 35 years. He joined the LA County Sheriff Dept. in 1960, (Badge #503) he was stationed in Newhall and Lancaster offices before becoming Actons first resident deputy in 1984. He retired in 1990, after which he and his wife, Peggy, opened Acton Gym in Santiago Square, which they ran for several years. He enjoyed fishing, playing trumpet and guitar, traveling, Disces and Hammer Sports. He and Ed Wiseman were founders of the Acton Leos, a Lions Club organization for young people. Fred served the community as president of the Acton Lions (Melvin Jones recipient) and president of the Acton Community Club. He also served on the Acton park Formation Committee, the Acton Town Council and the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District Board of Trustees. He was co-founder of Acton Food for the needy and owner/operator of the original Acton Gym. Winner of many Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for Disces and Hammer throw at numerous Police Olympics. Survived by his wife Peggy Fate, Calif., daughters Linda Manchen (Rich) of Acton, Calif., Cathy Watson (Mike) of LeBec, Calif., son David Aitken (Nicole) of Simi Valley, grandchildren Daniel, Tamara, Mikayla, Jakob and three great- grandchildren, brother Steve Fate of Oakhurst, Calif. Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, at Highlands Christian Fellowship, 39625 20th St. West, Palmdale, Calif., 273-1000. Our Papa was the best Papa. He whistled all the time, and he loved the Lord and chicken pot pie. We are thankful that he shared the love of Jesus with us. Now he is in Heaven and we can talk to him whenever we want to.
