LEWIS, Geraldine Yvonne Anders
LEWIS, Geraldine Yvonne Anderson (aka Jerry Lewis) A long time Antelope Valley resident, died peacefully on the morning of January 4, 2013. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday. A Native Californian, Geraldine Anderson was born in Pasadena, California on December 25, 1922. She attended Pasadena schools and graduated from John Muir High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Walter John Lewis, Jr. (aka Johnnie) when just a freshman in high school. They married on February 21, 1942. The new Mrs. Lewis resided in Altadena while her husband served as a Navy C-Bee in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, the couple and their son, Richard and daughter Judi moved to Littlerock, California to embark on a life as turkey/ alfafa ranchers. They resided on the senior Lewises ranch on 130th Street East. A third child, a daughter, Janet and a fourth child, a son Jeffery were born during the ranching years. A change of employment to General Telephone Company by Mr. Lewis facilitated a move to Palmdale, California. Then came a move to Lancaster, California. With a family of four children Jerry busied herself as a homemaker for most of her life. In 1959, Mr. Lewis was transferred to Pomona, California. Jerry loved the change from a desert climate and enjoyed planting and caring for a flower garden of gardenias, azaleas and camellias. A habitual whistler, Jerry could be heard whistling a happy tune, day and night, as she tended her home. She also provided in-home child care to help supplement the family income. But, caring for her family remained her life-long focus. Another job transfer for Mr. Lewis brought the family back to Palmdale in 1963. Jerry Lewis resided in Palmdale for the next 45 years, until 2008, when she could no longer reside safely alone in her own home. For the past four years, she has resided at High Desert Haven Assisted Living in Ridgecrest, California, where she was loved by residents and staff members. Her family remarked that Mom/Grandma will be fondly remembered for her sweet spirit, quiet elegance and her thick, pure white, perfectly coiffed hair. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her son and his partner, Rich Lewis and Teresa Tauzer of Bayside, Calif., her daughter Judi Roberts of Claremont, Calif., her daughter and husband Ernie and Janet Quier of Ridgecrest, Calif., her son Jeffery Lewis, of Palmdale, Calif., 12 grandchildren and their spouses, 15 great-grandchildren, her older sister, Viola Gardner of Yucca Valley, Calif., two sister-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lewis was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Walter John Lewis Jr. As per her wishes, Mrs. Lewis has been cremated. Her ashes have been placed with her husbands and will be scattered at sea on a date determined by her family. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Lewis will not be held at 34 members of the family gathered at the Heritage Inn and Suites in Ridgecrest at Christmas-time to celebrate 'Moms 90 Wonderful Years of Life'. Condolences may be sent to Judi Roberts 203 South Mills Avenue, Claremont, CA 91711 or Janet Quier 648 North Scott Street, Ridgecrest, CA 93555. Arrangements entrusted to Halley Olsen Murphy , Palmdale.
