KILBY, Erma Hazel
KILBY, Erma Hazel Erma went to be with our Lord on Dec. 5, 2012, at the age of 92. Members of her loving family and Hospice personnel were with her at the time. Erma was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, George Kilby; her daughter, Patricia Cross; her great grandson, Shane Byrd and her grandson Kevin Kilby. She is survived by her brother, Merle Sampley (Sue) of Sun City, her son William Hayes (Jean) of Santa Rosa, her daughter Helen Hardy (Gary) of Quartz Hill, her son Robert Utgard of Temecula and her son Ronald Kilby (Carol) of Napa. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Erma was born in Fordsville, Kentucky and came to California at a young age and made her home here. She was a loving mother whose children were first in her life and she worked hard raising them while also finding time to help and take care of others who were in need. Together with her husband George, they operated and ran The Optimist Boys Ranch in Lancaster and were in the field of working with youth for many years. She also was employed at Lockheed and worked on the L-1011 and later in life worked for several years at Hardys Liquor and Grocery Store in Quartz Hill. Erma will be remembered for her love of family; her great breakfasts; her never missing birthday cards; her hospitality; her sense of humor and her ability to make each member of her family feel special. She also loved Jesus and prayed that each member of her family would know and have a personal relationship with Him. We love you Gommie; you will always be in our hearts. A special thank you to Hoffman Hospice of Palmdale, Calif., and to Dennis and Ronda McPeek of Lancaster, Calif. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Quartz Hill, 4829 W. Ave L-8. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carousel Ranch, Agua Dulce, Calif., or Hoffman Hospice, Palmdale, Calif.
