HUCKABAY, Mary Kathryn
HUCKABAY, Mary Kathryn Mary Huckabay passed peacefully surrounded by family on Oct. 16, 2012, after suffering a stroke. Born Sept. 8, 1940, in Quincy, Illinois to Grace and Harry Martin, the family moved to Lancaster in 1956, where Mary attended AV High School. Marriage and raising four beautiful children occupied her younger years. Later, Mary became Management Secretary to Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich in his Antelope Valley office, where she worked for 20 years, earning a reputation for going out of her way to help County constituents. Mary met her life and dancing partner, John Lyle, and together they tripped the light fantastic for the next 22 years, becoming very involved with the Fun After Forty dance club. Mary was active in retirement, traveling the world and working as a volunteer with the Senior Meals program. Preceded in death by her husband John Lyle, parents Grace and Harry Martin and brother Don Martin, left to cherish Mary's memory are her children, Dale Huckabay, Kathy Huckabay, Diane Huckabay and Debra Weber; four grandchildren Cyla Villamore, Sara Huckabay, Jackie Maksimov and Amber Preasmyer; and 5 great-grandchildren: Leila, Nia, Nicolai, Nadia and Daniel. She also leaves sisters Wilma Maxine Aldrich and Doris Martin who wish to thank the staff at Annabelle's Cottage for their loving care. Mary leaves a rich legacy of friends who will miss her fun and lively presence. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to AV Committee on Aging, Lancaster Site Senior Meals, 858 W. Jackman Street, Lancaster, CA 93534. A memorial celebration of life is pending. Arrangements entrusted to Halley Olsen Murphy, Lancaster.
