SIMI, Patricia Pat
SIMI, Patricia 'Pat' Born on June 9, 1918, in Houston, Texas. Born Elsie Agnes Collins to Harrie Richards and Elsie Grace Collins, her family migrated from Keokuk, Iowa to southern California in 1920. Pat attended Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles before earning an Associate of Arts degree from UC Southern Branch, now known as University of California, Los Angeles. She went on to study history at UCLA. After attending college, Pat travelled the world as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines (TWA). She met her husband, Roy Simi, at an Elks International convention she attended with her brother, Bill. They married on January 15, 1955, and Pat moved to Lancaster, where Roy was raised. She was a homemaker while Roy worked the family ranch, Simi Brothers Ranch. The couple had two children, Giovanni Raffaello and Victoria Patricia. Pat was very active in the community throughout her life in Lancaster. She was involved in the Eastside Elementary School PTA before serving on the Eastside School Board for 12 years. Other organizations that benefited from Pat's involvement included the Lancaster Women's Club, Indian Maidens, Eastside Little League, and the Antelope Valley Guild of Children's Hospital. Her longtime love of golf led her to become a director of the Women's Southern California Golf Association for 4 years. She regularly volunteered at the California Poppy Reserve and Antelope Valley Hospital. In addition, after many years as a volunteer, Pat served 12 years on the Antelope Valley Fair Board of Directors and was named a permanent Honorary Director in recognition of her contributions. Sports were a passion of hers having played baseball and tennis often with her three older brothers. Decades later, Pat enjoyed them again by always attending her grandchildren's baseball games or tennis matches. She was delighted when the JetHawks came to Lancaster and could often be found at the Hangar watching a game. In 2010, Pat moved to Roseburg, Oregon with her daughter and son- in-law, Mike and Victoria Gross. She passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2012. Pat is survived by her children, Giovanni Simi and Victoria Gross; her children-in-law, Janine Simi and Mike Gross; two grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Tylor Simi and Chenin and Evan Dow; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2012, at Mumaw Funeral Home. Internment will be private.
